An Recreactional Vehicle (or RV) covers any motorised living or camping vehicles including motorhomes and campervans. A caravan is also considered a mobile home but because it is not independently powered and needs a power source, it is not considered a RV.

It is recommended by many towing experts that the Laden weight of a caravan be no heavier than 85% of the kerb weight (or kerb mass) of the vehicle that would be towing the caravan.

What is Laden weight?

Laden weight refers to the weight of a vehicle or trailer inculding all passengers and goods allowed to be carried by the vehicle or trailer combined.

What is kerb weight?

The kerb weight is the weight of the vehicle from factory with fluids to capacity, including fuel, but without any passengers, goods or additional fit out items.
